Remember to always check camshaft end play when rebuilding. There are always subtle differences in the width of one companies cam gear and another companies cam gear. Also I always use a stock ford cam retainer. To me the machine tolerances are more precise. Limit camshaft end play between .005-.008

Speaking of Torrington Bearing cam end play clearance?
According to Comp Cams, paragraph#10 they recommend .004-.010" end play...

Does that spec go for Torrington Bearing?  Or is it ZERO-CLEARANCE, so .000" end play?  Using this timing set:

That timing set is made by sa gear, with the torrington I set them up around .002-.004 at most. Your cam plate will need to be in the .248 thick area.
