HEI tach wire?

I installed an HEI distributor in my 88 mustang, carbureted 5.0, and was wondering if the stock ignition coil negative wire would work if hooked up to the tachometer connection on the distributor.
Need the stock tachometer to work.
Didn't find anything in my search, so please don't flame me.

Found what I was looking for....found I can use a wire that goes to the tfi module since the po cut off the coil wires.
