I have a 92 351 that I am going to put in my 66 F100,both heads have intake bolts broken off in them and would really like some better heads since they have to be removed. I can get some 70 heads to go with the 70 intake I will be using but not wanting to spend a bunch of money going through them so what year was the first for hardened seats and are those heads just as crappy as the later normal production heads.

Since unleaded gas was a requirement for 1975 year model vehicles, I'd say 1974. But I don't have a definite answer.

If you want good heads with hardened seats, Explorer heads are the way to go.

With the exception of GT40/P and the lame E6 heads, all 289/302 heads flow about the same (give or take a little). But there are huge differences in some combustion chamber sizes. With the exception of 69-74 models, 351 heads are basically the same as those on 302s.

Doing more with less, or something like that.

I know the FE heads got hardened seats in 72 but know nothing about the small motors,just trying to find a set of heads from the junkyard that are better then the 92 heads so I will have to check the pull and pays for some explorer heads. Since the heads need to come off time to improve.
