Wanting to put together a 9-1 IMCA 302 circle track B mod. motor and wondering about a crankshaft. These things must use stock stroke, low end I beam rod,OEM block and can use the Windsor Jr. iron head, any mech. flat tappet cam.Horse power maybe 325-340 but 7500 rpm and rough uneven tracks that put a strain on things.
We're not a bunch of tight wads that don't want to spend money on a good crank. The decent cranks weigh around 44 lb. and lighter is supposed to be better. Now,have seen where the stock crank from a 255 V8 from the '80s era is std. 302 dimensions but weighs 32-34 lb. and will balance 28 oz.
Is this a viable choice or a disaster waiting to happen,in other words will this thing live?
We currently run 351W successfully but would like to try the lighter 302 and like the small main bearing diam.Have been told a 5.7 Chevy (yuck) rod could work with a custom piston for the ultimate long rod set up.
As usual more questions than answers!
