I have a set of what trick flow says is the first year they cast the tw for sbf
anyone have any info on them , are they Good?
They are in good shape
Are there any issues with the first yr castings?

There was some issues with the valve guides. Otherwise, nothing comes to mind.

They came with cheap powdered steel guides, and had screwed up valvetrain geometry.  If left completely unchecked without at least optimizing pushrod length, the guides would often wear out before the first oil change.

For a short period, you could send in the 'defective' first batch heads, and they would correct the geometry free of charge.  The re-did where the studs screwed in, and included different guide plates.  (I had this done) 

With unmodified heads, many reported achieving better valvetrain geometry using small block Chevy rockers...  so if those are available, they are worth a try.

I sent my heads in, had bronze guides installed, and ported them.  They are the heads on the current 306.
