I have a 1988 Mustang with a fluidyne system consisting of a 3 core radiator with an oil cooler and 2-11" fans it has no shroud on it currently a D1SC Procharger @ 12 psi with a large intercooler and air conditioning Condenser on a 327 stroker motor. When running down the highway tempts are between 180 and 190 degrees when I come up to a light and wait in traffic overheating occurs 220 230 degrees and it boils and spits water out the overflow.  I am wondering just how much good the oil cooler is doing I am thinking about removing the oil cooler and putting a shroud over the radiator with a large Single high cfm cooling fan or higher cfm dual fans. Any tips on how to narrow down the problem or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. thanks jimzilla.

Is that an air gap between the fan and radiator? If so, definitely seal that up.

If you have room for a gap, then there is room for some type of shroud. A flat piece of aluminum may not be perfect, but would be better than nothing.

I honestly don't get it.

Yes that is an air gap and there's also an air gap at the fan. I do plan on putting a shroud on it but I was wondering what your guy's opinion is about the oil cooler. Do you think I would be better off removing the oil cooler and then I would have room for a bigger more powerful fan that is what I am wanting to know.
I could be wrong but pulling the air thru a intercooler, then a a/c condenser then the radiator and finally the oil cooler would make it a bit inefficient? If I remove the oil cooler it frees up space for a higher CFM fan so I can pull a significant amount of air thru everything.

I found too much timing at idle makes mine run hotter.  When I brought it down from 28-30 to 20 or so made idle temps much more stable.  And being efi, the eec then has some torque reserve to let it adjust idle speed with timing as needed. How much you running?

I'm thinking that you just have too much stuff impeding airflow. 

The gaps also allow air to be pulled from somewhere other than through the cores.
