I have a steel gear already ordered, but can a cast gear be used temporarily, and if so for how long?

I wouldn't risk it.  Don't really need metal shavings in your oil...

Not all cast gears are created equally and neither are all cam cores.

I've seen a aftermarket SADI cam wear out a factory cast gear in no time, but I've also seen a cast Mallory gear used for months with a factory roller cam and show very little wear.

The short wait isn't worth the risk of damaging the engine.

Bottom line, if it was the hot ticket, the fast guys would do it.............they don't

You might need some Titanium rods and a flow bench!  LMAO on floor

I honestly don't get it.

I'm sweating, my heart is racing, my clutch foot is twichin', and my right arm punched the computer screen doing an involentary 2-3 shift while reading all that.
