First off love the site been readin a lot and learnin some new things been a while since I've been in the game. I've got several stock forged piston engines and a few mustangs layin around and a victor jr intake, 750 holley, the possibility to get my hands on some fox lake ported edelbrock's for a good price that flow 300 cfm at .600. I can't afford to do what I want but want to put together something and I've got an ole 2030 compucam. Now to my question kind of like the thought of good flowing heads and opening the valve a little latter like Jay was doing. If I install this cam 4 degrees retarded is it gonna put the intake center line to far past peak piston velocity or will it work for higher rpm?
Thanks Billy

Can you post the open/close events of the cam?

Sorry thought someone might of been familiar with the old cam. It's specs are adv. duration int/exh 270/278  .050  216/220  adv. int. 28* BTDC to 62* ABDC  exh. 76* BBDC to 22* ATDC. At .050 int. is 1* BTDC to 35* ABDC  exh. Is 47* BBDC to (7*) BTDC. Int. centerline 107 exh. centerline 117.

They probably are, but I'm trying to help you kick this off.  Lots of very knowledgeable people here about cam events.  Unfortunately, I'm not one of them.

Someone will chime in that can help I'm sure.  If I had to guess (but don't go by my input) that would put exhaust closing at -11* BTDC which seems excessive.  It would create a bigger intake pulse.  Maybe try 2* retarded?

If I'm wrong, someone will surely correct me.  That's the good part about posting on a forum full of experts.  The bad part is it's easy to look like an idiot.   Spt at PC

Yeah I understand but if I'm thinking correctly it will actually bring the exhaust to -1* BTDC

I'd install it straight, if not advanced a little. IMO, the average power will be much better.

With a 4° retarded installation the small overlap (-6°) will be centered on TDC and ICL would be @111 ATDC..... I would try it
