I know nothing about the diy tuners out there.  i have lots of reading to do

I will be putting a turbo kit on my 90 fox in the sig below.

Whats the easyist tuner for a noob, that dosent cost much?

do they all require a lap top to change the tune?  I know the AFM pms dosent but, its out of my range at $900 plus.


do they do away with the MAF?

The moates quarterhorse is the one I use, i used to use an EEC tuner. I think Vristang used a tweecer before.  There is a lot of support for the quarterhorse, and a message board dedicated to tuning of the EEC -IV cars.

Yep, I did use the tweecer for a while until the QuarterHorse hit the market.
Haven't done much with a tuner lately though...

It isn't really that tough to learn it.  If you feel pretty comfortable working in Windows, Excel, Internet, etc... then you shouldn't have too much trouble navigating the software.
Learning what changes to make is what takes the research...

You can go MAF or SD if you like.
Seems like all the 2.3t guys are switching to SD now

You want a laptop or netbook (what I use).  This is what lets you capture all the data on what your engine is doing (datalogging).  Then you use EEC Analyzer to view, dissect, adjust, etc. to come up with a better tune.

Much much harder with out it.  Though you can look in real time in BE in it's dashboard view and see what the sensors are doing, injectors pulses, loads, timing, etc. and then adjust.

One little bit of warning.  BE has/is giving some user or rather their computers issues in datalogging.  Clint can usually straighten you out via a live connect to your PC.

Another Vote for the Moates/BE/EA combo. The Quarterhorse has been flawless and Clint is outstanding with the couple of minor issues I had. Go for it!!

Where did you guys purchase yours from?
Not aware of any.  Their site does not mention it.  There were revision changes along the way.  I believe the current one is rev 1.6.  Older revs were not compatible with the latest BE.

This may be late but B.E., EEC analyzer and moates work very well. I am not a tuner but in the process of learning. I go to eec.org and read and learn. Their site is full of info. as well as here. I am slow to learn and hired a guy on the net to help me learn this shit. I was able to pick up more in 4 days of one on one training 1/2 hour a day with help. Best money spent.

You aren't kidding. I had issues with my datalogging when I started out and clint got on crossloop and went through my system to find the problem. I've bought very few products with that level of service after the sale.
