12vdc Relay Basics

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/46nlei-2e4k?fs=1&amp;amp;hl=en_US&amp;amp;rel=0&amp;amp;color1=0xe1600f&amp;amp;color2=0xfebd01" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/46nlei-2e4k?fs=1&amp;amp;hl=en_US&amp;amp;rel=0&amp;amp;color1=0xe1600f&amp;amp;color2=0xfebd01</a>

NOTES:
  • The video shown above is for demonstration purposes.
  • 5-prong relays are either "Normally Open" (NO) or "Normaly Closed" (NC) configurations for the center 87A prong or terminal.
  • NC means terminal 87A is closed to pin 30 with coil not powered, NO means terminal 87A is open with terminal 30 when coil is not powered..... IOW... it's a second terminal that works as terminal 87.
  • The following pictures/diagrams show the most commonly available NC 12vdc relay used in automotive applications or usually known as the "Bosch 12vdc Relay"
