What is the problem with starter kick back?  Is it supposed to be hard on the starter or something?

I think the Pertronix module has a variable dwell, similar to a HEI. When I had the HEI module on my car, it wouldn't crank good with the timing locked above 30.

You are spot on about the Pertronix module having a variable dwell.

Is that the fuss of my poor starter being the reason of that variable dwell?  I knew about the Pertronix but didn't put two and two together.

Crap!!!!  LOL!

Starter and the flexplate (flywheel), mainly.

I know that MSD says the MSD box that I bought will work with my Pertronix moduled distributor but with the variable dwell I hope that those two play nice with each other ...

Dwell is just how long you saturate the coil before you spark.  You still spark at the same time.  CD ignitions don't rely on dwell.  Your distributor is just a trigger for the box.
