Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but you need a bronze or composite polymer gear (not recommended last time I asked).

I'm using a bronze gear on my billet solid roller from Jay.

Jay has said bronze or steel will work.

Bronze can help you know whats going on with the valvetrain by the wear patterns it obtains.
