Weirdest looking stick power graph I've seen. Most of the time a stick graph will show a gain in torque as the engine accelerates to peak torque. Most auto graphs will show the torque to be flat or spike at the beginning followed by a continious drop. If it is a stick, then he should have lied about it, cause those numbers are terrible.

Small heads and intake DO NOT MAKE MORE TQ.  The people that say that stupid $h!t should not be allowed to hand out "Tech Advice".  Small parts act like a restrictor plate and they KILL HP & TQ.

This further proves that a very good set of heads and a MATCHED MODERN CAMSHAFT is the way to go.

People, feel free to always link people back to this original post.  I am moving this to GRASS ROOTS and every newbie in the front door that wants stock heads or GT-40 heads needs to be linked to this post.

Now Jay, even GT-40 heads could add 50 plus hp, maybe more to this cluster phuck. People don't realize that as c.i.d goes up, so does airflow requirements. Lets not leave out piston speed in a 347 vs a 302.

Granted. The point is if your going to be cheap bastard, don't use the worst stock heads, use the best stock heads...............which are GT-40's. I have no problems with a budget build, but don't cut your face off despite your nose.

Even with an extra 50hp.

Last year I helped a guy do a 347 with GT-40 heads.  He had an old school tubular GT-40 intake too.  Had to use the junk.  It made 350 RWTQ and 330 RWHP.  Hp was at 4400 RPM.

Cam was 228/244
548/543
111+3

Idled at 17" of vacuum because of the restriction.

He is now out of money and cannot sell the stuff.  He tells me weekly how big of mistake he made especially when you see guys like Claflin making more steam than that with 302's.

If he already had the parts, then its not lost money. If he purchased the heads and intake, plus paid good money, then yeah that was wasted money. I put a limit at $500.00 for GT-40 heads, if the cost is over the $500.00, then step up or save more money.

Sounds like decent runner though for a daily driver AOD car, unless it lacks driveability.

Crazy, made it a stroker and it makes less power and torque than a factory stock 5.0L?  Wonder, Ponder

The is big increase in piston speed, that is a huge factor with those small heads.

Ok I have a couple questions.

Say you take a stock 302 vs 347 and pit them against eachother...meaning, you simply change the displacement and use the same h/c/i/e.

Are we concluding here that the 347 would possibly make less power? Would that primarily be because of how bad the cam is for the combination rather than the lack of airflow? Naturally, you'd think the 347 would make more tq because of the longer stroke, and thus more hp...but I guess when the cam is that bad for it, it messes that up.

Now, I'd assume you could put a better cam in there and use a 347 with 302 parts and make more power....but simply still not get very far...and thus still make it a shitty setup....

Look at it this way, a baby could breath thru straw, a 300 lb man could not.

Thats the gist of it.

The Stock setup will be more effecient on a 302 than a 347.
