COMMENTS/OBSERVATIONS: Title: Re: Mk1 Ford Escort 408W Post by: gigford on September 17, 2011, 06:15:14 am We have built this car with absolute amateur way, first V8 engine build for us as well.
All parts choosen with little(internet) knowledge as you can see, realised not all matching together at the end but will improve later hopefully. We want to swap the cam for a solid flat one, this won't rev above 6500(not a surprise). Shortie will go, replace it with long tubes. No budget for better heads, any other suggestions welcomed! :thanx: http://youtu.be/lva5VYFZV18 Title: Re: Mk1 Ford Escort 408W Post by: ochohill on September 17, 2011, 11:24:15 pm 1 5/8" shorty headers are way too small for a 408. It seems you already know the heads are not helping much. I would also bet your carb will not help much until you start moving more air.
Do you have any specs on the heads? Title: Re: Mk1 Ford Escort 408W Post by: gigford on September 18, 2011, 05:27:58 am 1 5/8" shorty headers are way too small for a 408. I bought them on ebay as bare(ebayshop "skipwhite"), 210cc/60cc 2.02/1.60. We put Manley valves in it and checked them through at a local machine shop, all valve guides, seats were ok, got a little porting as well, thats all basically. There are CompCams pro magnum roller rockers on it with stud girdle. Title: Re: Mk1 Ford Escort 408W Post by: gigford on September 18, 2011, 05:43:07 am Also what is the ideal lauch rpm in relation with the stall rpm? It should be the same or above?
Lets say I have converter which stalls somewhere 3000-3500 regarding to the manufacturer spec. I use a 2 step MSD box and set the limiter to 3500,3700 or even 4000. Is it possible to achive a better 60 feet if I launch from a higher rpm than the actual stall speed? Might be a dumb question but... :dunno :) |
