Will see what the new radiator ,wheel alignment and 650 DP bring's . My 63 falcon already runs cooler ,drive's better and light's my little drag radial's up on the street and it would not do that before.I think i'm learning something it only took 4 day's and 5 minutes on sbftech.com :burnout Title: Re: project freebird Post by: Doobie on March 30, 2010, 12:26:32 am Well here goes .The car ran great all weekend . the 650 dp worked awesome .
60... 1.794 330... 5.312 1/8...8.309 mph...81.64 1000...10.920 1/4...13.156 mph...100.36 mph and et slowed down while my 60 picked up and the front end is still fubar i have a video the front end is fully extended as if a floor jack was under it barely letting the tire touch the ground Title: Re: project freebird Post by: Doobie on April 05, 2010, 02:07:36 am Ok know one ever commit's so here we go.
I was offered a 91 lx hatch w/pony's or weld's drag lite's 5.0 5 spd bone stock needs paint. For my falcon i can keep my motor & tran's what do you think Title: Re: project freebird Post by: 302ute on April 05, 2010, 02:38:49 am Here's my comment, keep the ol' girl. The old cars just have a certain character that the newer stuff hasn't got. I like the old stuff :Gluck:
Title: Re: project freebird Post by: Ammosteve on April 05, 2010, 09:11:54 am I agree....Keep the Falcon. LX's are a dime a dozen.
Steve Title: Re: project freebird Post by: Doobie on April 05, 2010, 10:12:49 pm The problem is this car is it was alway's for sale. And with the front end wow's. It almost seal's it.
I put a limiter on the front susp it helped but unloaded the rear on the street the car is just a plain handfull not power wise all front suspension Title: Re: project freebird Post by: the only Qualk on April 08, 2010, 01:39:35 am keep the falcon... and you have other options for front suspension too. and for rear.... hope you have subframe connectors too
Title: Re: project freebird Post by: 289nate on April 08, 2010, 02:26:46 am I've got a good buddy who I go to the track with who has a 351w powered early white falcon like yours. Apparently it was a mess at the track until he had the right guy do the alignment. Now it goes straight as an arrow and ran low 12's at LACR. Now he races at Irwindale very regularly. You may have seen him around.
I would stick with the Falcon from what you describe. Where do you have the car listed for sale? Title: Re: project freebird Post by: Doobie on April 09, 2010, 01:28:02 am I have a friend of mine willing to take a look at it he has apair of bad ass ford's his name is
John Calvert. He said to bring it to him i told him whats up with it :bang he had his 68 cobra jet mustang up on the lift and showed me what to look for. Title: Re: project freebird Post by: 68mustang405 on April 09, 2010, 01:37:53 am On the front do you have the support bars from the firewall to shock towers? Title: Re: project freebird Post by: Doobie on June 10, 2010, 12:05:09 am I did what John Calvert said to do, took a torch to the steering arms, bent them down as far as I could, let them cool, and then heated them up again and bent them up horizontal so the tie rod would be parallel to the lower control arm. My falcon picked up 3.5 tenths and 5 mph. Ran a 12.81 at 104.99 with my little 600 vaccuum secondary Holley. Wish I still had my buddys 650 Double Pumper. On a greater note my daughter won her first drag race in the Sportsman category. It was only her 3rd race! Her junkyard Nova ran 12.23 at 110 mph. :burnout

Title: Re: project freebird Post by: Blue Oval on August 16, 2010, 01:52:12 am Nice old car Doobie.
We have this model here in Australia as well. They are popular, especially the 2 doors. The windsor is a nice option for the powerplant. You have this going very well. Stick with the Blue Oval now ;D The windsor is everything and more the sbc is. Title: Re: project freebird Post by: juiced coupe on November 01, 2011, 07:00:36 pm do you have pictures of how it looks now? x2 Its coming: Just got off the phone with John Calvert. He said the attaching point on the spindle to the tie rod end is too high on the '65-'66 mustang. He said it would be a couple hundred bucks to have him do it at his shop. After that it can be aligned by your regular alignment shop. The plan is to trailer the car down there with the drag tires and pay him to do his thing. Then I will know exactly how it's correctly done and can do it myself to my cars from then on. I'll also throw pictures up here so you all can see and get a good idea of how to do it yourself. Coming soon but not tomorrow. ;) Title: Re: project freebird Post by: 289nate on November 02, 2011, 09:00:28 am I will be working on a date to take it to Calvert racing today. Need to get with my brother-in-law about his trailer and when John is available to do the work. Stay tuned!

Please pay attention to where he heats the spindle arm and how he bends it (and what he bends it with.) As you can tell, I'm reallllllllyyyyyyyy anxious . . . . . . ;) Title: Re: project freebird Post by: 289nate on November 02, 2011, 07:31:06 pm Trailer is available first half of next week. Waiting to see what Calvert Racing has available. Fingers crossed.

I'm sure he'd be willing to tell you more exact details if you are trying to get it done ASAP. Otherwise I will do my best to show what needs to be done to mimic this modification.
