The block has been sitting in the hot tank this week and I should get the ok from the machinist early next week as to what size it'll clean up at. She's a cleveland 2 bolt.

After a bit of searching and discussion I've settled on a 383 combination.

RPM 3.75" cast crank
Scat 6.125" Ibeam rods 7/16 bolts
Venolia 1.19 CH 16cc dish pistons

I'll be using iron cleveland heads. I have some ported 2V closed chambers at 63cc ready to go and a set of 4V closed chambers which need a bit spent on them. I'll probably run the 2V's (I know, too small) in a mild settup while I upgrade the driveline as funds become available. Then I'll swap to the 4V's for better performance. Comp with these heads should be around 9.8. All the 393 and 408 pistons I looked at give around 10.3 comp.

This is for a daily driver in a full size car with an auto that needs to be pump gas friendly, will see some highway miles. With the cast crank I figure 6000 to 6500 rpm would be a sensible limit. Still debating on wether to stud the mains tho it's prolly not required. Have a couple of factory iron 4bbl intakes and a street dommy to try all in 2V and have 2V 1 3/4" headers 4 into 1. Also several carbs from 600cfm to 780cfm to choose from.

Any comments on suitability of parts before I start shelling out fun vouchers would be much appreciated. Feel free to be brutal.

Cheers
Darren

Woody can you do a dished piston for a 408C bigger than 16cc?

I'd still like to go with bigger cubes if I can get the parts to suit but the thought of running 10.4:1 comp with iron heads scares me. Sounds like there's no issues running a 408 cleveland over a 393 so for a few extra $$ for the crank, may as well run with a 408.

What is a pump gas friendly compression to shoot for? I was thinking just under 10:1 keeping in mind it's a heavy car with street gearing    something the cam grinder can work with and still have good compression?

Thanks
Darren
