... I can see my head a lil' above the water compared to all the "Call Such-n-Such" comments by people who probably can't even adjust their own valve lash!!...
TY Thumper!

So you feel superior by buying a carb that needs much more initial setup?
..Whatever floats your boat.

Frdnut.....not feeling Superior...just saying... Actually I didn't "Buy" my current carb. Instead, I built/assembled it "Myself" using parts from a number of places and did the usual lil' tuning changes after driving it and dialing it in during real world useage.
My comment to Thumper was just saying that I'm kinda glad that some "Hot Rod" types still actually work, build, tune and do their own thing with their cars instead of having someone else pick their combo for them.

I agree 50% of the time with this notion, on the flipside there are not many carb guys that are better than Patrick, I could count the guys on one hand that are equal to him. Granted I certainly dont know everyone, but he is very good.

Tater - After reading all your posts, once again, it seems to me that you alone are the one acting superior. Your mentality is that unless a car crafter is beating out his own fenders with a hammer and some sheet stock he is taking the easy route and isnt worth a damn.
A lot of us "cheerleaders" CAN tune our own carbs, CAN tune our own EFI, CAN pick a good off the shelf cam etc. . . but because of the miracles of modern civilization we can get a head start on all of that by using the skills of others to aid us in our quest of car crafting.
I, for one, am really getting tired of your attitude.

differnt strokes for different folks... i for one thought this was a dead subject. lets all not get carried away.
to the defence of tater, he is not a dick, he has helped me a bunch of times along with many others on this site...
when it comes to cars there are always different ways to go about things... there are those who do all the work themselves, those who source out certian parts of a build, and those who have someone completely build them a car.
luckly our group is the first 2... those who build the cars themselves and those who source out parts of their build... neither are wrong, but not all get along.... its always been like that.....
ive been around all 3 groups in the hot rod world..... thats how it is... and this is my .02 cents

Sat nite.... the evening is cool, the street is long , dry and dark! It is an old two lane way off the beaten path , yet there are 100 people there, milling around. Talking about this and that... " he has tires!!' yeah, the other guy has suspension..... Did you hear his cam idle?? " The Girls are hanging on their boyfriends, wanting to go and see a movie, or to the mall, not be out here with these.... these.. Gear heads!! Cars... all I need is a ride... why ad I here, she mutters.. smack.. another bug!!!
This is a good place, Jim and I have been building our cars for over a year now, I hope that cement bridge will hold my tires.. I am tired of all Jims bragging.. I had this guy do that, and this guy do this!! He makes me sick.. I am using shit from my dad's garage. Shit how old was I when he first bought this carb..?? And all the trips out to the strip.. tuning and re tuning.. it is a wonder the bowls stay on ... lol. But I learned alot over the years.... God, I hope the tires work.
The some one points to the end of the qtr.. "That Jim" they yell!! and as the bright red Fox pulls to a stop.. the crowd fills in around the car. Jim is confident His well spent money on his latest tune and Heads will make a mess from the that old 'Carb car" of Bills!! This has been going on since Hi school, freaking looser.. look at his hands, I'll bet he never gets the grease out from under his nails... looser!! Fuel injection and money... unbeatable, oh yeah, unbeatable!! Shit, just got freaking mess on my shoe...
Its time.... Bill jumps in his primer multi colored 92 Fox, hits the gas one time and hits the key!! Varrooom !! the 306 jumps to life.. hitting hard on that " old style camshaft" He is glad he experimented with cam phasing like his dad used to.. that old cam is hitting hard!! Hope the tires work! He puts the car in 1st and rolls slowly to the line.. the " Bridge", stops, Looks at the two lane black top disappearing past the head lites.. gotta do this just once, Bill thinks to himself. His girl is at the side of the start, a small worried look comes over her face, as she knows... this is an old hi school feud!! Hope the tires hold!!
Jim is in the leather seats, looks at all the guys that came to see HIM!! Life is good. Hits the key, the engine jumps to life, the whine from the blower , just give you goose bumps... eat shit Bill he thinks to him self. Your old crap, modified junk, road test parts are about to he history!! This aint PINKS, first to the end wins!! Jim slides the trans int first and slowly approaches the line!!
Bill , tachs the engine and does a small burn. The tires just have a little haze, the turn downs are blowing the dirt from the tire tracks.. vahhrummp.. they hook and toss the front of the car up!! Bill backs up on a clean tracks and nice warm tires, cam hitting hard, oil pressure right, fuel pressure right where it should be... he Blips the throttle and the engine JUMPS CRAack!! all is right in the nite!! He look over to see Jim nail the mess out of his red stang.. smoking tire shredding burn out.. 100 feet of tire smoke, S/C screaming ass hauling burn out!! Shit says Bill..." hope the tires hold!!" Jim slows and drops into rev, moves slowly back on the bridge, stops.. moves into the stage... and looks at the starter... man she is sharp tonite!! Jim thinks as he looks at his girl going to drop the flag.....
Both cars are tached.. the arm is up... Bill is wondering if the tires will hold, Jim is not worried, if Bill takes me out of the hole, my SC will catch and put 5 cars on him..... wait... wait... GO!!
Bills old Mustang is coming out with tires in the air... 1st , Crack second at 7500 rpm , man this car is rocking!! How far ahead of Jim is he?? is Jim coming on him?? WTF.... where is Jim??
At the starting line Jims car stalled... Jim is on the cell calling a wrecker!! A friend comes over and says.. " what happened?" Heck if I know, says Jim... the phuquing tune guy must have done some thing wrong.. !! "Can you fix it?? the guy asks??" Jim just looks at him and keeps talking to the wrecker..................
Some times you have to get dirty and learn your systems, just bolting on stuff is good, tuning / modifing/ trial and error will always win in a two car automobile race... yes?? This is HOT Roding, the rest is just a cash drain... fun yes!! Expensive , yes !! Impressive?? Not to a lot . No Dis here, I was just bored and figured this would stop the bickering... cool?? If not...
Just me..................................................................

Tater really does not have an attitude. He speaks what is the truth and doesnt sugar coat. Tater is always helpful and offers advice. I believe what he is getting at is, sure patricks stuff is good, but you can still take a carb and tune it yourself and set it up properly. you dont have to neccesarly pay to have a carb made for you. Now if you dont know what your doing then sure have one built.
Anyways I understand how tater feels i think, you dont need to just buy everyhthing pre set up etc, when you have the knowledge to do some stuff yourself and save yourself money. And i totaly agree with that:)

Thumper.....I love your story! Makes me wanna throw the CD American Graffiti in!!!
Woody, I like this site and feel that I've contributed some to it with helping others.
Self proclaimed "CheerLeader" Mighty Mouse....to be Honest, your not on the top of My list of getting an X-mas card from Me either!! Ever since you copy/pasted the ChatRoom and sent to Jay awhile back You lost my respect! Since then Jay and I had a good discussion in the ChatRoom and we came to an agreement....He's honored it and I've did the same and as far as I know there is No Friction there.
Patrick builds great carbs....no question about that...but so does AED,Barry Grant,Chuck Nuytten and Quick Fuel along with some lesser known people.
My main goal is to maybe get someone to strive to research their combo and figure out what'll work best for their combo and then take the satisfaction of doing it theirself! If thats having an "Attitude" then so be it!
If You want me Banned from in here....whatever....
I have more Respect for an individual that Builds their combo and runs a # than a pieced together high $ car...but thats just me.

I will drop it as far as this post topic is concerned, but calling me a "self proclaimed cheerleader" is a shot below the belt.
I was not in a chat room when you were bashing Jay - another person was, who told me all about you and Fastford577 bashing Jay and me, and calling Me, Chris, Ron and others "cheerleaders".
I promote a product I have experience with - CI cams and Thumper ported heads to name a couple - and that makes me a cheerleader does it?
I am glad you came to an agreement with Jay, but you will never have one with me.
Ban you? Why would I give you the satisfaction. You are entitled to your opinion, and I don't ban anyone for that.
