I picked up an 80mm c&l for $40 , It's a nice piece and looks brand new. The problem is the electronics on top of it has the "square" 4 wire connector that i guess is used by the 96up cars, and I need the "Oval" 4 wire connector for my fox.

I've heard that i can just swap the electronics with one from a stock 89-93 and that will work, but i can't find anything to confirm that.

Anyone know?

Make sure you actually 'measure' the sample tube, as the color coding has been known to be missing or wrong.

Here is a list of stuff I measured and some that I acquired from another enthusiast.

Color code    Inlet Diameter     Outlet Diameter

Green                .6500"                .4850"

Black                .4880"                .4880"

Red                   .6570"               .5125"

Purple               .6500"                .5400"

Blue                  .6500"                .5550"

Clear                 .5650"               .5650"

Orange              .6500"               .5700"

.650"                 .6500"               .6500"

This is all on my site as well...
http://www.freewebs.com/vristang/clsampletubes.htm

There are several j/y applications you can source the stock Fox MAS
(if you want to go the j/y route)
88-93 Mustang 5.0
89-95 Taurus SHO 3.0
88-93 T'Bird 3.8
92-93 T'Bird 5.0

All of these vehicles will have an 'F1ZF' MAS sensor, which is the same as the stock Fox MAS.

New MAS sensors don't have the same 'F1ZF' part numbering.  If you get a new MAS, just order for your year 5.0.

Hope that helps, let us know how it works out.

Its funny how many of these high powered 3" stroke motors are talked about, but very rarely happen to make it to the strip and back up all the hype.

Man that tamper proof torx bit set is hard to find! For referance the correct size needed is a T20 tamper proof torx bit.

Mighty Mouse--- I need some electronics! lol

Vristang--- When i measured the sample tube i used my "cal-tec" (not the best) dial calipers and i was getting....

inlet         outlet
.582          .580

Maybe i measured wrong or something, but this maf was setup for a newer mustang so maybe the sizes are differant?

Is there a way to convert inches in mm ? I want to measure the inside diameter of the maf and see if it is a 80mm or maybe an 85mm!?!

There are a couple of sample tube colors that I don't know the diameter on.
You may have one of these tubes...
Is there any color marking on it?

Google will convert mm to inches.
"convert 80mm to inches"
Yields
80 millimeters = 3.1496063 inches

WOW cool!

Google does everything!

Nope no color markings on it that i could find.

I'll measure it tommorrow and see if it is 80 mm for sure and then i'll order the 42lb sample tube accordingly.

Thanks for all the help guys!

I have another question I'll try posting here first before making a new thread.

With an 80mm c&l maf , What inlet tube can be used, From the maf to the TB???

I looked at c&l's website and couldn't find anything, the stock piece won't fit over the 80mm maf, and AFM seems to only cater to pro-m mafs.

What to do?
