I am rebuilding a 1987 5.0 speed density engine to put in my 65 mustang and run efi.  The cam that came out of the motor had some rust pits about half the size of a dime on the front 2 lobes othewise I would have just used it.  I assume that there is nothing I can do with this but look for a new cam.  What cam would work good in this set up if I cannot find a decent stock cam.  I have gt40 iron heads but everything else is basically stock. If anyone has a stock cam in good shape that is laying around I would be interested but if not I am not opposed to buying new but want to maintain driveability but not opposed to increased performance.  I will probably go to maf as many will suggest but would like to get it running as speed density first.
thanks

How bad are the rust spots? Can you feel them?

Yes, it is more than surface rust.  I have 2 spots on the front 2 lobes.  They are not very deep but it has pitted the metal down to the black and removed the shiny surface off.  I thought it was just grime when I dissembled but upon cleaning the spot were rust.  As I said I was going to run this stock cam but I am not sure I want to mess up everything else with a bad cam.

Its funny how many of these high powered 3" stroke motors are talked about, but very rarely happen to make it to the strip and back up all the hype.

Thanks, I sent him a message.  Anyone else have an old stock cam around that they can part with.  By the way, the old 289 that cam out of the car had a comp 270H flat tappet that I thought ran good.  I noticed that comp sells a 270hr hydraulic roller would that be similar if I have to go with new and would it work good with the speed density.

On the bottle again?

Constantly... living a life in an alcoholic haze makes it much easier to bear.

My mistake putting this in the wrong forum.  What do you think about the anderson cam on a speed density set up.

That anderson cam is using the stock specs on a billet core, no reason why it shouldn't work. That one advertised on the corral is for 1.7 rockers, so it'll have lower lift then a stock cam. I PM'd the guy and told him that, but he never put it in his ad, the cam is sold now, wonder if the buyer knows what he really got.
