Need input on re-doing my nitrous system..
«

I currently have a crap Zex kit, and something is wrong with it and i think the "smart" box or whatever they call it has malfunctioned.. When i am testing the WOT switch without the engine running it works and both nitrous and fuel are spraying, but while i am trying to spray the car it doesn't pick up any power.. It just starts to miss and pop.. I think something is wrong with the solenoids in that little purple box.. Also sometimes it won't spray when i give it WOT, and once i let the throttle off then the damn kit sprays and will not stop.. I have been wanting to change to a better system for a while, and i guess its time now..
My question is can i just get a NX shark nozzle and some NX solenoids with a WOT switch and replace the parts of my ZEX kit? Is there anything else that would not be compatible with the NX stuff... I would really like some solenoids and a nozzle so that i could have a good 150 shot (maybe bigger later on)..
Also if someone could recommend what i need i would be very thankful.. I would like to go to a TB plate with some NX solenoids..
Thanks, Richard

need more info
Bottle Pressure?
Timing?
Plug Gap?
Nozzle location?
Fuel Pressure?
Fuel Pump Size?

Thanks for the reply...
But i am more interested in knowing if i could just replace the Zex solenoids and nozzle with a better (NX) setup.. And if so, what solenoids and other parts would i need. I am fairly new to nitrous and just want to make sure that all the parts that i want are compatible together. I am assuming i could just get a NX fuel solenoid, NX nitrous solenoid, shark nozzle, WOT arming switch, and then use the same lines and fittings from the zex kit..
need more info
Bottle Pressure? Around 950 psi
Timing? On a 125 shot 8*
Plug Gap? .045"
Nozzle location? 6" before TB
Fuel Pressure? 42 Psi
Fuel Pump Size? 255lph

What I'm trying to get to is if the problem is in the set up, not the system. If you have a bend between the nozzle & TB, you will always have trouble not matter what you run.

a little old school, but the single nozzle compucar kit works GREAT.
Make sure you run a relay on the solenoids

and then use the same lines and fittings from the zex kit..
Changing the lines around to different lengths and sizes changes the jets/size for power amount.
you will have to be really good at reading plugs to pull this off.
Best bet would be to sell it and buy a complete system.

I think it is in the system.. It worked great for a while.. Then it got possessed.. The NMU( Nitrous Management Unit) has a short in it or something. Both the fuel and nitrous solenoids are contained inside this little purple box.. It is supposed to power the solenoids at a set voltage from the TPS.. And mine just quit working properly and opens the solenoid randomly and sticks open.. Once i power the NMU without the TPS signal wire even attached to any voltage, it still will open the solenoid and stick.. I am fed up with this Zex kit.. And would like to know if i can just get some better solenoids and be able to use everything else..
Thanks, Richard

That is the answer i was looking for.. I figured there would be something that would make this thing not work right.. I will look into this a little more before i try it.

I assume you have a 86-93 EFI 5.0
I have used this TNT Force 2 plate kit, it looks nice and works good.

I used this kit 10 years ago and the system was jetted way lean. It may be fixed now but I would bump the fuel jets up if you go this route.

I would get rid of that purple box for sure. I've seen nothing but trouble with those so called easy hook up nitrous kits.
You can use different solenoids and get a micro-switch for the throttle body. I have done this before. Check the plugs to make sure it's not running too lean. I would also get a fuel preasure safety switch to if you don't have one all ready.

Thanks for the info.. I picked up a Harris Speed Works Sudden Impact Core Kit that came with short lines, solenoids, and a nozzle.. I think it will work out good.. Gonna try a 150 out and see how she likes it..
