on the boss block, its cheaper but 331 is all you can go without spending big $ on custom pistons for more stroke.

sweet, i didnt think about that. the big bore 347 is a good platform correct?
got the cubes plus the shorter stroke that will want to rev higher... if i got that right.

This isn't exactly true... You can do a big bore 347.  It uses a 3.25 stroke crank and 4.125 bore... these are shelf pistons.

i would love to do the boss block build.  i read about it in MM&FF on project stolen goods.  that would be one bad ass combination and it made great power for an N/A motor but the thing is pricey.  the block costs about 1700 unmachined.  but i agree with you guys completly that i need a better than stock block if i want anything to last.  but i just don't have that kind of money.  and the supercharger is a pipe dream, but if it happens i want to be ready.
like said if not a dart, man o' war  or something better than stock atleast a mexican or old boss block..

and why not 347 there is no reason to leave 16 more cubic inches on the table.

rethink what u want as if u really want to boost it and stroke  it a wise thought would be buy the good aftermarket and rotating assembly this year and finish it with the blower or what not next year.

i know waiting sucks but why take the chance of blowing it up and ruining good parts when u could build a solid foundation for whatever u want to throw at it... My 2¢

ok what i am looking at is one of woody's "347 Liberator Stroker Short Block".  do you think that this engine would be up to the task?  should i go all out on the short block upgrades (28oz harmonic balancer, H-beam rod, probe main girdle, 4340 steel crank)?  Since i am not going to be putting a blower on it right away, what kind of wear and tear will happen at low compression without the blower?  thank you everyone for your input.  i need to get an engine ordered soon and i am going nuts trying to figure out what to do.
compression can be combated by using high octane or meth injection.
i dont have personal experience, but from what i have gathered here and there, i dont see why you couldnt build a 10:1 motor and use a meth kit when you put the blower on and pump 14psi with 93 octane.

woody would know the answer though.

i have never heard this before.  if its true that would work out great while the motor is in n/a form.

meth is basically high octane on demand. its cool stuff.
it allows you to get more spark in without detonating.

I chose 9.65:1 compression with Woody for my 347, mild boost of 9psi is reasonable for pump gas. I also have the stock block, your pushing the block's limit with much more boost than that.

You can build an engine many many ways, make note that a ton of people make well over 400hp without boost. Add a little boost to an otherwise great combination, and you can break a stock block fast. Plan your total power based on the block and the quality of parts and the tune. Don't forget to have it tuned perfectly.
